# Spanish Translations

### Overview

According to 2024 census data, approximately 13.5% of U.S. residents speak Spanish as their preferred language at home, and this population continues to grow and shape the demographics of today’s homebuyers. [source USAFacts.org](https://usafacts.org/answers/how-many-people-speak-spanish-at-home/country/united-states/)

To help lenders serve this growing market, Maxwell developed a fully translated Spanish loan application experience. This supports a more accessible borrower journey resulting in fewer borrower drop-offs, cleaner application intake, and less one on one support required from lenders.

Our rollout will begin with testing phases in Q1 of 2026 with general availability in Q2. [Learn more about rollout timing and testing procss](#turning-on-spanish-translations).

#### Key Benefits

**Borrower Language Selection**\
The application detects the borrower’s browser language preference. If Spanish is preferred, the application automatically displays in Spanish. Borrowers can also manually switch languages using the language toggle.

**End-to-End Translated POS Experience**\
A complete Spanish translation of your point of sale loan application that mirrors your current blueprint, allowing you to collect all required pre-qualification information.

**Translated by Mortgage Professionals**\
Our bilingual mortgage experts translated the application to ensure that questions are phrased clearly and accurately in borrower-friendly and compliant language.

### The Borrower Experience

#### Language Selection

Borrowers can opt in to use the Spanish application in a few different ways:

* **Browser Language Detection:** If the borrower's browser is set to Spanish, the application automatically appears in Spanish.
* **ENG/ESP Header Selector**. Borrowers can switch their application language at any time using the header toggle located in the top right corner of their browser header.

{% hint style="info" %}
**NOTE:**

We store the borrower’s language preference. When they return to the point of sale, the application will display in their selected language on any device or browser.
{% endhint %}

#### Spanish Disclaimer / Transition Point

After a borrower selects Spanish, they must acknowledge a disclaimer. The POS experience is translated with our best efforts for accuracy, but legal disclosures and closing documents are presented and signed in English.

A view of the disclaimer in English

After the borrower acknowledges the disclaimer, the POS:

1. Stores the borrowers preferred language as Spanish. From that point forward the borrowers experience will display in Spanish whenever they login.
2. Displays the Spanish translations to the borrower.
3. Stores a PDF record of the borrowers Spanish acknowledgement.
4. Sends email to the Lender notifying that a Spanish borrower has been assigned to the application containing a link to the manage team tab to add a bi-lingual team member to work on the file.

#### Elements Translated and Reviewed by Mortgage Professionals

We translate standard POS experiences that apply to most mortgage applications. All of the following translations are reviewed by mortgage professionals.

* All standard blueprint application questions, responses, and instructions
* All standard borrower navigation elements such as tabs, page names, and buttons
* All standard tasks including W2, Paystubs, and 1099 requests
* Standard legal language including Privacy Policy, Terms, and eConsent
* Standard email notifications sent to the borrower

#### Custom Elements Requiring Lender Provided Translations

These elements are specifically customized by your organization and stored in our Point of Sale. We offer machine translations of these experiences, but we will require your team to review and QA the final translations because machine translation without review can change meaning.

* Custom application questions and answer options
* Custom follow up tasks
* Custom landing pages or loan officer pages
* Any legal copy or disclaimers specific to your organization

#### Not Translated User Experiences

We don’t translate any lender-authored content or customer-specific branding. Therefore we do not translate any of the following items.

* Lender branding, logos, and custom branded messaging
* Borrower and lender chats
* Any documents provided to the borrower such as disclosures or e-sign packages that were not explicitly provided by a bi-lingual doc provider.
* Custom tasks created for a borrower by a lending team member
* Any lender app experienced outside of the Borrower Tasks tab

### Lender Experience and Notifications

Lender teams are notified in a few ways when a Spanish-speaking borrower is in the pipeline

1. The POS sends an email notification to the Lender notifying a Spanish borrower has been assigned to them and provides a link to manage team tab to add a bi-lingual team member to work on the file.
2. On the Loan file there is an "ES" label underneath the borrower who has selected Spanish as their preferred Language

3. On the Lender Pipeline view a language column will display a "Spanish" label.
